A Change for Good

Throughout the book Touching Spirit Bear, Cole Mathews attitude about life changes. He goes from a thug who robs stores and beats others to a stone rolling, wood chopping soft guy. All from one mercy-beating from a bear.

During the beginning of the book Cole is a bad guy. Beating people, stealing, fighting, Cole is your stereotypical school-yard bully. He has a terrible view on life and spends many nights in detention centers. So after committing a robbery he eventually starts telling people about it. Not because he feels bad about it, but instead to gloat. Eventually someone named Peter, squeals on him and Cole finds out. Leading to Cole beating him so badly that he receives a mental disability. But instead of going to jail, Cole gets accepted to go a remote Alaskan island. Where he will think about his actions for the next 12 months. Now Cole in no ways feels bad about what he did to Peter. So to avoid jail time he chooses to except the offer and leaves to go to Alaska.

Apon arriving he gets a shack and supplies. The boat leaves and Cole is left alone on the island. With anger sweltering inside, he grab gasoline and some matches and sets the shack and supplies ablaze. Feeling better, he decides to escape. He fails and then his anger drives him to pick a fight with a bear. After losing he is left to die. He slowly awaits for death, thinking about his decisions and the effects on others. On the verge of passing out, he gets rescued and returns home. After recovering he is left with physical marks and a mental scare in his brain. Yet he still hasn’t healed; he gets sent back to the island and makes friends with nature, learning that the only way to heal himself is to help the people he hurt heal. After almost a year he asks if Peter can come to the island. After serious consideration, Peter and Peter’s parents join Cole on the island. After a few days Cole and Peter are left with Cole’s Parole Officer. During this time Cole and Peter learn to heal together. Throughout the stay Cole continues to manage his anger and eventually leaves the island with Peter as his friend.

Cole is tired of being the bad guy. He wants to become a spirit bear. With strength inside of him.
So throughout the next book Cole goes home and tries to continue with life. But without his normal routine he realizes returning home a new changed man, is the hardest challenge yet.

America

America

From the sand of Afghanistan to the dirt of France.  To the sound of the screaming Vietnamese with the smell of blood throughout the air. Earth shaking when the towers fell. The site of the Kennedy’s lifeless body as bullets ripped through him. All of these are events that shook America, events that would have torn other countries apart. But not us.

As Americans we solve problems, not problems like “What is beauty?”. We solve practical problems. Sadly peace is not always achieved. In which case we must use force. Because what happens here matters over there. Every fight is our fight. We don’t just get to sit one out. This act of extreme valor is what makes me proud to be American.

As a American citizen I feel it is my job to help make the best of America. Every person deserves to be free. No matter their race, hair color, or gender. God put us on this earth to be human. Yet, some people think that freedom is a crime, a act of betrayal. We know this is not true. We as Americans exercise this freedom.

This part of the constitution is one of the most important. It defines America. I want to thank the Founding Fathers. The sacrifices they made, the time they spent, the need for a free country led to this country. The only thing I would change would be the right to bear arms. I think automatic weapons should be able to be possessed by the public. If you have a permit. Which would take 1 year of classes to get.

I am proud to be a American. We are all part of the greatest nation in the world. Thank you Founding Fathers for all you’ve done, for this great and free country.

Cause and Effect

Author's note: In the book Touch Spirit Bear, I  compared different events in the book.

Normally Cole Matthews bad behavior would have sent him strait to jail. Instead he gets to spend a whole year on a remote island. While there he burns his supplies and cabin. In effect to his bad behavior and getting mauled by a spirit bear, he gets sent back to his home town. After getting a second chance, he goes back to the island to fulfill his time. Realizing that to heal himself from his bad deeds, he must help the ones he hurt, to  heal.

If he did not get sent back to the island the rest of the book would have been about his jail time. Making this book very boring. Obviously this is a huge plot twist and made the book more interesting.

Conflict Resolution

Author's Note: The conflict in the Hunger Games. (Circled around the last book)

Hunger Games! Surprised? Most likely not.  I chose this book because I remember it the most. So  basically,  the main character is against the Capital (Government). Meaning this is person vs. society. Throughout the book she chips away at the Capital. In the end she storms the Capital, kills everyone, looses her sister, and moves on with life.

Middle school sucks, well at least for Greg Heffley. Social tripwires, big brothers, and nuclear cheese are all a daily mix for Greg. Follow him as he writes in his diary about his endless plans to become popular which never seem to ever go his way.  This book is driven forward not by an unfolding plot, but rather the hilarious failure in Greg's schemes. This book is written just like a journal with pictures and font that look as if it was written by hand. Even down to the lines of the paper. Anyone who love mischief will love this book.

I want to be a Billionare

If I had a billion dollars the first thing I would buy would be a House. It would one of the biggest houses in Wisconsin. Including a huge amount of land surrounding it. Next thing to buy would be furniture. Nice big TVs and Couches. The special rooms in the house would be a bar, pool, greenhouse, man cave, and even a weapon room. A big thing I would like to buy would be a huge plot of land to hunt on and host events. To get to this place I would need someone to drive and something to drive. For Vehicles I would buy a Jeep, 10 Trucks, 10 ATVs, 5 4 Wheelers, 2 Motorcycles, and a Mustang. I would constantly invite people over and have around the clock butlers and maids. But the main thing I want to do is give charity $150,000,000 to The Make A Wish foundation.

My Favorite Team

My favorite team would have to be Fantasy Factory. There leader is Rob Dyrek. Rob Dyrek is a professional skater.  Unlike most teams they don’t stick to one sport. They participate in Moto-cross, Basketball, Dirt Bike Racing, Go carting, Paintballing, Basketball, and even Dodgeball.

Though they participate in many different sports/activities they are not a official team. Instead they basically spend a bunch of money on team uniforms and equipment and play the sport until they lose. The only reason I enjoy watching their show is because there is always lots of humor.
